New poster for Mazey Day

Mazey Day poster

When The Tow Bar wanted a Mazey Day poster for their new venture for Golowan, they wanted something brash, bold and eye-catching.

They sent over the text and there were a lot of words, names, dates, times and prices and so I took some time sorting out a kind of format.

It was a ‘music in a marquee’ affair, so I choose a template with some decks, a mixer and added a few overlays along with some retro fonts.

I was rather pleased with the end effect and the marquee was rammed on every night – a success all round.

View the website here (that I also designed).

Increased revenue from an ecommerce website by Nigel Pengelly

Ecommerce website sees increased sales

It’s not often people contact you and say ‘thanks for what you did to my business, everything is going great’.

Such is the pattern today, that people only get it touch when something goes wrong.

Which is why I was so pleased when Zoe, from The Smock Shop, sent me an email out of the blue regarding her ecommerce website.

Her email read:

Subject: Website

Hi Nigel.

Just thought you might like to know our mail order sales are up 100% on first three months from last year.

The power of a decent website.

Her website at: was a delight to make, and I was really pleased with the end product. I did a fair amount of work on the search engine optimisation and now if you type in ‘cornish smock’ – it’s right there at the top.

So thank you Zoe, I’m glad I’ve got a happy client…

A new website for DG Self Storage

Dan Gough came to me looking for a new website for his new storage container business, near Redruth.

A website that was easy to navigate, that displayed the information in a clear manner and made good use of the fact that it was a secure environment.

With the brief set, I got to work and in less than two days came up with a design that was functional as well as aesthetically pleasing.

On to the next job…

As a trained journalist, I like to get down to what I really like doing and that’s compelling copywriting for clients. I enjoy getting to know a business and finding out what their strong attributes are and put them into words.

Aside from copywriting for websites, I also write copy for websites including blogs and social media updates.

Below is some copywriting that I have put together for Aspen and Ash to go in a full page editorial in Cornwall Living.

Luxury, handcrafted wooden flooring adds a warm welcome to your home with the latest range of Cornish Oak, Olive Ash and Douglas Fir engineered flooring from Aspen and Ash being the materials of choice.

Aspen and Ash, with more than 40 years experience in exclusive flooring across the UK, produces artisan floors for clients wishing to enhance the beauty of a space with a stunning wooden floor of genuine quality.

Company director Peter Randles said: “Natural wooden flooring will bring a sense of character to your home, with the appearance improving as time goes by.

“Our exquisite flooring can be contrasted against chic ultra modern furnishings or used to complement period features to great effect.”

Aspen and Ash has secured close ties to Lord Falmouth’s Tregothnan Estate enabling the company to procure beautiful oak and olive ash.  However, from the forest to the floor, Tregothnan wood is limited.

The oak and olive ash is sourced from the sustainable woodlands of the estate, using trees that are felled as part of the natural thinning process.

Peter added: “The wood flooring market is awash in cheap, less sustainable wood from far flung places. We source our wood locally so that we can preserve endangered rainforests and reduce transportation miles, minimising our carbon footprint.”

“We are committed to recycling and preserving historic, heritage-rich woodland for future generations to enjoy. We know where our wood comes from and we want you to share its journey with us.”

Aspen and Ash also offers beautiful Dinesen-style reclaimed Douglas Fir.

Peter said: “We seek out reclaimed timber. Not only does it benefit the environment, reclaimed wood from older structures is sourced from mature trees, iving it hardiness and character. This timber is durable, having already stood the test of time.”

Beautiful and durable, Aspen and Ash’s engineered flooring is handmade with precision and passion using traditional methods to offer unparalleled stability and finishto produce a floor that will last for generations adding instant value to your home.
